What is best to do in 2 (two) days in Rome

Rome, the ‘Eternal’City’, is constantly at the top of most tourists’ must-see lists – and for good reason.  There’s so much to see and do, so much history, so much culture, that it’s a challenge what s best to do in 2 (two) days in Rome.

Most visitors come to Rome for 3 to 4 nights, leaving two to three days to explore everything is delightful city has to offer, but how to choose what to see?

See whether you’re visiting as a group, a couple, a solo traveller or a family, there’s an abundance of sights and tours that are well worth your attention – there truly is something for everyone in Rome.

So, in terms of sightseeing alone, here’s what is best to do when you visit Rome in 2 Days.

Day One – St Peter’s Basilica (Basilica di San Pietro)

St Peter’s Square is a great starting point – one of the world’s truly beautiful public spaces.  Within Vatican City (Citta del Vaticano) you admire elegant works of art and architecture, such as the Dome and Bernini’s Baldachin.

Michelango’s Pieta is worth a visit, as it was sculpted when he was only 25 and is his only work of art that bears his signature – see if you can find it!

Allow enough time to also see :-

  • Trevi Fountain (Fontana di Trevi)
  • Spanish Steps (Piazza di Spagna)
  • Piazza Navona – Four Rivers Fountain
  • Pantheon
  • Castel Sant’Angelo
  • Vatican Museums (Musei Vaticani) – Sistine Chapel, Raphael’s Rooms

Day Two – Colosseum/Coliseum (Colosseo)

Today will be a busy day seeing the best of ancient Rome, starting in the area around the Coliseum, such as :-

  • Arch of Constantine (Arco di Constantino)
  • Roman Forum (Foro Romano)
  • Imperial Fora (Fori Imperiali)
  • Collonna di Traiano

In the afternoon, take time to head to Piazza Venezia, and marvel at the gigantic Vittoriano Monument. Make sure you head to the terrace at the top for a gorgeous view.

Finally, to round up a wonderful couple of days, wander up to Capitoline Hill (Campidoglio) and visit the Capitoloni Museums – the oldest public museums in the world.

Although these two lists are brief, there’s much more to see in each place – art, statues, monuments etc. that will take your breath away and distract you (in a pleasant way, of course!)

Depending on your own needs, hobbies and ‘must-see’ list, it’s easy to build a more detailed-itinerary but these are the key places to visit to get the upmost out of Rome in only two days.

So this is quite an extensive list of what’s best to do in 2 (two) days in Rome, but of course you can add/delete items as appropriate. Just make sure to allow time to eat, drink, take photographs and gaze in wonder at the beauty of such an elegant wondrous city.
